more than a spiderman party

I've said it before...

Go BIG or go home.

But, for Jack's 3rd birthday, I felt like keeping it mellow.

Unfortunately for him, his birthday is crunched between the craziness that results from the domino effect of Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

But, it didn't matter to him. He cruised. Well, except for the drive there. He had just woken up from a 20 minute nap and was in quite a mood.

He kept telling me, "This is ridiculous!" on our way to meet our party people at the park.

However, once I threatened to eat his pizza and cake and open his presents, he was suddenly game for the celebration. Knowing him, it was probably the food more than the presents that snapped him out of it. He's a big guy.

And once we were there, we played, we ate, and celebrated my special guy.

It was a true big boy party this year. You know, full-on boy theme and boys only (with the exception of patient girl cousins).

And as we drove home still high on cake and laughter, Jack started singing to himself...

You are my sunshine
My only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You never know dear
how much I love you

So please don't take my sunshine away

The other night when
I was sleeping
And I held you in my arms
You'll never know dear
How much I love you

So please don't take my sunshine away

My eyes became blurred. We rocked each of our 3 babes to sleep at night singing that song.

He remembers.

After opening presents and rushing Luke and Kevin out the door for the Christmas parade, Jack picked his favorite Star Wars movie. We crashed on the sofa. And as I whipped out the laptop and started punching away on my keys to write this post, Jack said to me, "Mama, you make me happy."

And I thought...you'll never know dear, how much I love you...

Jack-Jack,

You make me happy.

xoxo

Ugh. There you go, running my mascara! Alejandro has the same Spiderman shirt:-) He knows the full lyrics to Journey's "Lights (City by the Bay)" and anytime it comes on the radio, he sighs and says "That's OUR song, mommy!" I can't listen to it without crying.
