that kind of husband

We were driving home from our sweet niece's 1st birthday party when we spotted something in the road.

My husband and I were both silently trying to figure out what the strange shaped something was.

We both questionably said aloud, "Is that a...turtle?"

I've seen a lot of things living in a rural area.

Bobcats.

Rattlesnakes.

Coyotes.

Never have I seen a turtle on these windy country roads.

Thankfully I have the kind of husband who pulls the minivan over to the side of the road when I ask him to rescue the turtle.

Even though cars were speeding past him and the frightened turtle hissed at him, as if saying, "back off dude!" he still scooped him up and brought him back to the car.

He held him gently on our short drive to the golf course where the river is.

He led Luke (8) and Charlie (4) down the embankment so they could be a part of the grand rescue. They were beyond excited.

And he even came back to get a very upset Jack (3) who loudly protested from his carseat when he wasn't included. It is tough being the youngest.

50 pound Jack in one hand. Turtle in the other.

Being the good Dad that he is, he and the boys properly named the turtle Shelly and sent him on his way back home.

He is that kind of husband. He rocks.

It is the unexpected moments like today: saving a helpless turtle from speeding cars because his crazy wife asked him to, including his boys in the adventure, and turning a mundane drive home into a memory making moment that makes him that kind of husband.

P.S. Sorry for iphone pics. I'm learning that I need to always bring my camera with me!

This is awful sweet. Those are the kind-of moments you want your children's lives to be full of - way to go making the memories happen!

Hooray! My guy is the same sort. Except, he's the one who sees the little critters. I am not so mindful. He swerves out the way for whatever it might be. He rescues newts & worms & whatever he sees in distress. :)
I am not so brave (or caring, sadly...)
