Pirate Hoops

It all started with my new emerald green bikini with a gold jewelry thinga-ma -jigger in the center of the top and on the hip of the bottom. Sounds weird, but it is a super cute bathing suit. In preparation for my girls’ weekend in Palm Springs, I’ve been planning out my wardrobe. I decided that I was going to stretch beyond my comfort zone and try something new.

BIG Gold Hoops. Not J. Lo big hoops, but big nevertheless.

For a fake diamond stud wearing kind of girl (wishing for real ones some day), this was a big leap of fashion faith. They look perfect with my new bathing suit and I’m feeling a bit like Carrie Bradshaw when I wear them.

Today I decided to try them out with my pumpkin orange cardigan, white tank, and skinny jeans. I put my hair up in a messy ponytail to better showcase my new gold hoops. I was feeling pretty hot (well, as hot as a thirty something suburban stay-at-home mom can feel). However, the feeling didn’t last long. I began to second-guess my fashion statement after receiving a somewhat peculiar compliment.

Charlie (3) took a big inhale displaying his excitement and said, “Wow, Mama! Your earrings make you look…like a pirate!!! Boys just don’t get fashion. And here I thought he was about to proclaim something along the lines of “pretty,” “beautiful,” or “like a queen.” However, in his little world, pirates are pretty stinkin’ cool so I’ll take it as a compliment.

I still dig my new gold hoops and I can’t wait to wear them with my new bikini. I’ll be rockin’ the pirate vibe while reading mindless magazines and sipping a pina colada with my gal pals.

So I’m off to set sail to gorgeous Palm Springs WITH my pirate hoops on.

Fair winds me hearties!

You are so funny. I love it! Go Katie! I am so with you on the unadventurous fashion front. That sounds like an adorable outfit and I am sure your felt great in it, which is what matters the most. Hugs, Stephanie
